Dx10 is a load of crap... see here

I have vista 64 bit, an hd 2900xt, amd x2 4200+ @ 2.61 GHz... so here's the deal

In dx10 mode, I can run everything at max with no AA, 1280x1024 @ about 30-40fps (generally closer to 30)

Now, if you go into your game folder, "Crysis SP demo\Game\Config\cvar groups" you will see a bunch of different cvars for each graphics setting, 3 is high - 4 is very high, etc. If you copy and paste the "4" into the "3" sections then run in dx9, you are essentially getting the same exact graphics as in dx10 mode in dx9 runtime. (One thing doesnt work in dx9, in shader cvars you need to disable object blur, that feature is unique to dx10). So basically, this is running with dx10 graphics... and guess what!

Now if I right click on crysis demo in the vista games explorer, and choose run in dx9... i get 50-85 fps with dx9 with the very high graphics settings! Wow... dx10 sure gives a performance boost.

to run in dx 9 mode press start then go on games then find crysis demo i nthe list and right click and go on run in dx 9 mode, now tell me how to disable object blur sys01 and fr33!!! where is shader cvar?!?!?!

I don't have the game there, dunno why but is there any other way to run as dx9 since i can't seem to get the game there.

well....i didn't....i have vista64...i'm running in dx10...
i just needed to know how can i get it to run in dx9 mode...so i can see the performance difference smile

for just motion blur it's r_motionblur = 1
just object blur is r_motionblur = 2
and both together is r_motionblur = 3

and to turn off is r_motionblur = 0

Go to the properties for your Crysis shortcut and add -DX9 to the end of the target line.

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -DX9

I did what I think you said. I opened up sys_spec_Full.cfg and changes the 3's to 4's and I really didn't notice a difference.  I didn't notice any dx10 features whilst in dx9.

It would be great if you could explain the procedure in detail.

Sorry for the confusion. You do not need to disable motion blur. The effect just wont be there. This effect is object motion blur. So when something flies through the air, there will not be a blur effect on that individual object, there is only full screen blur effects.

All you have to do is go to that folder, and go through all the cvars EXCEPT sys_spec_full.exe and copy all of the stuff from 4 into 3. Then save them (if u have vista, the directory is protected by UAC, so you will need to copy save the files somewhere else, then copy them back to the original location and overwrite).

I'm not sure about xp, it should probably just work whenever you play the game since there is no dx10, but in vista you need to go to games explorer, right click on crysis, and play in dx9.

It definitely gives like a 100% performance boost.... lol

DX10 was never supposed to give a performance boost.  64bit vista is supposed to be 15/20% faster then 32bit.  And your CPU sux.
